Akash Vukoti, Tell Us A Little About Yourself

My name is Akash Vukoti, and I am 11-years-old. I am in sixth grade, and I live in Texas, US. My parents say that I started reading at a very young age. I competed in my Spelling bee when I was just 2-years-old. After that, I was inducted into the high IQ society, Mensa at the age of three and I became a Davidson young scholar at five. In 2016, I won my San Angelo Area Regional Spelling Bee Championship, and I competed as the youngest boy ever to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee when I was just 6-years-old.

I was featured in Little Big ShotsHBO, and BBC documentaries. In June 2020, the award-winning documentary film, Spelling The Dream was released in over 190 countries and received excellent reviews not only from the US but also from New York TimesThe HinduThe Indian Express, Singapore, etc. In January 2020, I won the Global Child Prodigy Award.

Do You Do This For Recognition Or for Joy?

I do all this for the joy of doing. All thisstarted when I was 2-years-old, and you can’t convince a toddler to learn Spellings unless the kid is actually into it. I was doing it just because I liked it. I believe that everyone should follow their passion.

Akash Vukoti, How Does Your Recognition Make You Feel?

It’s fantastic, and it’s also a humble feeling to have fans of mine. Also, I have many fans on YouTube which feels so good. My recognition encourages me to do even more.

How Do You Crack The Crack A Word To Spell It?

First, I try to learn about the word, and I see how it’s spelled. Then I try to understand why it’s like that. Whenever I look at the Spelling of the word, I then go and look at the meaning of the word because it is one of the most important things. There is a different section with vocabulary words in the SpellingSpelling Bee. After that, I search for that word in a dictionary and try to find its origin and its history.

Has There Been Any Word That Challenged You?

There have been a lot of words in which there is not much context so I will have to memorize it. But I am pretty sure that there must have been some very few words which challenged me.

How Did You Get On Little Big Shots?

Back in the time, I was also competing in a series of Indian-American Spelling Bee to enhance the spelling capacity of children. So, the people of Little Big Shots found some clips of me, and then they contacted the foundation, NSF and then the foundation got us. That’s how I went to the show.
