The 11-year-old yoga prodigy, Ishwar Sharma, recently received Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Daily Points of Light Award. This young boy from Kent with autism and ADHD led daily yoga classes for 40 children across 14 countries during the lockdown and hence received this prestigious award for his incredible works. It is really amazing to know that Ishwar is also a Global Child Prodigy 2020 Awardee.
Ishwar’s Amazing & Inspirational Journey
Ishwar Sharma started practicing yoga when he was only 3-years-old after being inspired by his dad, who used to do Yoga daily. As Ishwar has struggled with ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) from birth, he couldn’t sit still and self-control his body initially. But when he began practicing Yoga, he found inner peace and calmness inside his mind and soul. He made everything possible through his willingness and determination.
Ishwar is already a three-time World Yoga Champion. He even got the title of ‘British Indian of the Year‘ on 16 July 2018 for his accomplishments in Yoga. Ishwar always wanted to help children with yoga, especially those who need it the most like him. So, he started hosting online classes for free long before the Covid pandemic. The classes were already proving to be a success, but his sessions went even more viral after the pandemic began. The yoga prodigy is really passionate about promoting both mental health and physical health by practicing Yoga.

In a personal letter to Ishwar, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said:
“You have brought the joy of yoga to hundreds of children globally during lockdown. I was particularly inspired to hear how you have helped children with special needs enjoy the activity you enjoy and excel at.”
Replying to the Prime Minister’s announcement, Ishwar said:
“I am honoured and humbled by this recognition. There has been unprecedented mental health issues amongst children due to the pandemic. I feel it is a recognition for yoga as a discipline which helps in balancing mental and physical health. This award has motivated me to continue my endeavour to spread the message of yoga all over the world. I do hope that yoga and meditation will be included in national school curriculum in the future.”
